Making the load switch in smart metering

Typical of many of our metering installations however, is that the smart meter is installed outside the household and therefore it is not possible or practical to connect household appliances to the auxiliary switches of the smart meter in the remote meter kiosk.

To meet this challenge, Landis+Gyr have developed  the L550 Remote Load Switch, which together with the smart metering solution will enable the utility to disconnect the household load remotely from the smart meter in the street kiosk.

The Remote Load Switch solution is therefore a means for any smart meter that has an auxiliary contact (installed outside the house) to disconnect up to 40 Amp household load/s (situated inside the house)

The Remote Load Switch solution consists of a transmitter and one or more receivers. The transmitter is situated in the street kiosk with the smart meter and the receiver is typically installed in the distribution board of the household, controlling the power to the hot water geyser. Communication between the transmitter and the receiver is by means of Power Line Carrier communication already tried and tested with the Landis+Gyr PLC prepayment metering range.
