Landis+Gyr helps shape Iberdrola’s PRIME PLC technology project
Landis+Gyr is working closely with Iberdrola in the development of PRIME, an open and public power-line communication method based on OFDM technology, which supports smart metering and smart grid applications. The open standard will allow interoperability between devices of different manufacturers and systems, thereby aiding the growth of new markets and reducing investment risks for utilities.
Within the consortium, Landis+Gyr‘s key effort is to define the integration of PRIME into the existing IEC standards framework. In addition, the company is providing technical support to PLC technology manufacturers to allow smooth integration of the PRIME technology into both meters and data concentrators.
“Our work with Iberdrola underscores our commitment to providing interoperable energy management solutions to the market. By working closely with our business counterparts, we can help our industry move towards an open energy market,” says Ad Van der Meys, Landis+Gyr‘s Executive Vice President EMEA.
Landis+Gyr is involved in numerous workgroups and projects in order to broaden the use of open standards within the energy industry, including ERDF in France and various utilities and maufacturers in the Netherlands.
